There is so much power in a digital camera and even a simple video camera. Once thought to be bulky objects, they are now slim and compact. A small little unit can be selected at the store for less than $100, and most of the time, this is exactly what users need.
As a camera buff and videographer myself, I consider the best equipment to be one that is affordable, slim, and compact. However, the best equipment also gets the job done. A lot of times, cheap units are unfit to record in dim lighting. However, once in awhile, a camera will be in the $20 to $30 price range and will actually record footage correctly, even in low light conditions. For sporting and special occasions, this is all we need.
Sometimes there are benefits to buying cameras in the store, rather than on the internet. For example, we can hold the object (in this case a digital camera) in our hands and feel whether it is comfortable to hold and record with. I will usually research an item online but actually when it is time to purchase I go to the store and buy it.
I enjoy being able to see the camera and hold it in my hands before committing to the purchase. I generally am happy with this process as well as the service received. However, one thing that I try to avoid is shopping in the store the day after Thanksgiving. Depending on what they are offering I do shop for Amazon Black Friday camera deals though.
One of the reasons I don't like to shop brick and mortar post turkey is because of this saying. They say that when people are greedy, be cautious and when people are cautious, be greedy. Black Friday and Cyber Monday are times when many people are greedy over small, trivial things like cameras.
I think it is silly how Americans react to perceived discounts and sales over trivial items that they don't really need. Fancy cameras are one example of this trend. So stick with a simple unit, not a fancy one that is ten times the price.
For in store deals, Target, Walmart, Fry's Electronics, and Best Buy are generally preferred. Once again, it can be helpful to do research online and then go to the store and see the object up close and personal before buying it. Would I do this all over again? Is it worth it? Sure, why not. We only live once so cameras are good to record these moments.
How much is a camera worth? Well, in these days that we are living in, good cameras can be picked up for relatively cheap, so a camera probably isn't worth more than $100. However, if you have money to spend and spare, feel free to throw caution to the wind and follow the latest trends buying whatever you want.
Some of the latest trends are waterproof cameras, high-speed motion capture cameras, go pros and other rip off cameras. Sometimes you can have some fun trying to keep up with the latest fads. However, if you are just looking for a nice camera, just go to your local retail shop and pick one up for less than $100. It's easy to do and works out just as well. Good luck!
